Another Perspective to Consider

DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of the characters. If I did, we wouldn't need to write fic to get Buffy/Angel smoochies.
SUMMARY: You'll just have to read it. =)
SPOILERS: I Will Remember You
RATING: If you can watch the show, you can read this.
DEDICATION: To Steph, because I think this was her idea in physics class. And Mr. Bell's 'experiments' in physics class, that can be more dangerous than living on a hellmouth. =)

I'm not immortal. Not really. But I've been around a while. Quite a while. Not always in this form, but hey, I'm not the only one in that position. All I'm trying to say is that I've seen quite a bit in my time. But nothing quite like this.

I'd known the guy a while. Not a really long time, but it had been like, five months. And we'd bonded, you know? I mean, the guy wouldn't let just anyone watch him drink blood. He kept me around because I was useful. He picked me up because I was useful. I mean, everyone needs a place to eat.

Okay, so I'm just a table. You're just a human.

Back to my story. Now, kitchen appliances are just about the biggest gossips you can imagine. Going back a long time. Everyone goes into the kitchen, everyone talks in the kitchen. So they know everything. And they cannot keep a secret. So, we all knew about him. Vampire with a soul. Fighting for redemption. Office upstairs.

But we also knew there was someone in his past. We'd never met her, but we knew she existed. The pain was just so obvious. Plus, there was that girl, Cordelia, who'd ranted for like an hour and a half to the demon about Angel going back to Sunnydale. So we knew about her. Buffy. Big love, big loss.

Well, so what? He's not the only one who's ever had to give up someone they loved.

Then he was back. And she showed up. But the real story comes in when they made it downstairs to the kitchen. And had tea and crackers.

Passionate forbidden love of all time, and they were sitting politely, eating tea and crackers. Then the conversation got interesting. You could feel the tension crackling between them as they tried to convince themselves not to do what they wanted so desperately to do. Then she touched his hand, and all bets were off.

Okay, once I'd seen them together, I knew about the big love, big loss thing. Everything disappeared except for the two of them and their love. The entire kitchen shut up. And if you've ever tried to get a coffee percolator to be quiet, you'll know what a big deal that is.

He rammed her up against the refrigerator to get some support, and then he came to me. He threw everything off the table with a passion born of desperation, and then they were on me.

I've seen quite a bit in my time, but nothing like this. The passion, the fire, and the unquestionable love. Believe me, I got it.

And then they broke me. Do you believe it? After everything I'd done for him, the little blond girl walks into the picture, and suddenly, I'm shards and splinters all over the floor.

So they moved to the bedroom. And that didn't even slow them down.

Then there was this whole big, end of the world, fighting demons thing. I'm sorry, I just don't care. I was still broken. But then there was a flip. All inanimate objects can feel things like that. Humans are really the only one who can forget when a day is swallowed. So they forgot.

Except him. And us. So, now we're here. He's sitting right here with me, and the sorrow radiating from him touches everything. We all feel it. He had the perfect set up, and gave it up to save the little blond girl. And she'll never know.

Or that's the theory anyways. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve, so to speak. And I think those two deserve some happiness.

The End
