That night was as any other night. People walking in the halls, doctors trying to treat each one better than the other, nurses running everywhere as fast as they could to make sure everyone was Ok. Organized chaos. The Sunnydale Hospital was used to that kind of movement. But somewhere on that hospital was a room without any movement. It was Buffy Summers’ room. She had been in coma for six years, since the day she gave birth a beautiful little girl.
Life had never been the same without her. The world had never been the same without her. No one had ever been the same without her. It was amazing how someone could change the world the way she did. And there she was. Lying on that bed for six years, How could faith be so unfair?
Somewhere in that city were a man and a girl who would give their lives to bring her back. She knew that. She could feel them. Every week they were there. She could feel their daughter crying and asking her to come back. She could feel him telling her he loved her and he was waiting for her. Her Angel. He was there every night.
He would sit there and tell her all about his day, and all his dreams. She could hear everything. She could feel him kissing her, but she couldn’t move. She couldn’t kiss him back. She couldn’t tell him she could hear what he was saying. She couldn’t tell him she loved him the same way he loved her.
She had tried to move several times. When he asked her crying to come back to him. When their daughter cried she loved her. When they both asked for a sign… She had spent six years trying to move. Trying to speak. Trying to open her eyes. Trying to see how her daughter looked like.
Her room’s door started to open. They entered. She could feel them. Her family. Her friends soon had stopped visiting her, but they hadn't. She knew he would always be there. They approached her bed. He took her hand. "We're here Buffy. We'll always be here." He sat their daughter on her bed. "I brought Alicia today." He sat on the chair and let his angel speak to her mother. She was already crying.
"Hey Mommy. Daddy brought me today to see you because I asked him to. I brought you a drawing I made. It's our family together. Daddy, you and me... I... I went to school today for the first time. I didn't want to go but daddy told me you would want me to study and be very intelligent. He taught me how to read and write but he said I'd learn other things in school. I liked it. I never thought it be like that. Full of other kids, and the teacher was great. And I made a new friend today. I only had one friend, cousin Anne, but Aunt Willow lives very far away and I can only see her once a month... I... wanted you to be with Daddy and me. Why can't you wake up? I..." She was now completely wet with tears and Angel embraced her. They *had* to be strong.
Buffy was dying inside. She could hardly hear what her daughter was saying. "Shh... She will wake up, sweetheart. She will..." Angel tried to comfort his daughter, but he too was crying. He brought his lips to Buffy's and kissed her. She could feel the warmth coming from his lips. She could feel the pain coming from him. He was suffering. He broke the kiss, took her hand and kissed her.
"I love you." he said before turning to the door. Alicia went to her, kissed her cheek and went to Angel. "I love you too Mommy. Please come back to us." She said and opened the door to leave. The night was falling. It was time to go home. But they knew their home was Buffy. But in that moment she was far away.
"I love you both." Angel and Alicia couldn't believe what they were hearing. He went to her bed but there she was, exactly as usual. But he knew she had spoken. "Ally, wait here. I'm going to call the doctor." Angel told his daughter. She nodded. Buffy couldn't believe they had heard her. She had tried to speak so many times and they finally heard.
Angel entered the room with the doctor. "I'm telling you, she spoke. We both heard it." The doctor looked amazed. He couldn't believe she had spoken after six years in a coma. "I must confess I'm very surprised with that, Mr. Angel. Six years is a long time and I didn't expect her to give any sign of life anymore, but she did. She's strong. This was the most difficult step to reach and she reached it. Now she has a serious chances of recovering." Angel smiled. The doctor left the room and he came to Alicia.
"She will be ok, right daddy?" She asked.
He smiled. "She will, sweetheart. Now I know."
She smiled back. "We have to celebrate."
He nodded. "What about ice-cream?" He asked her.
"Wonderful idea." She went to Buffy and kissed her. "Goodbye Mommy."
They went to the door, opened it and left. "Buffy, we're waiting for you. Take you time. Just don't take too long." Her soulmate said. The door closed. Buffy smiled. She was coming home. That was all that mattered.
