"So what should we do?" Buffy asked Giles. Her and the Scoobies--her boyfriend Matthew, and her best friends Willow and Xander, and her sort-of friend Cordelia--were discussing the latest rise of evil in Sunnydale. It was common knowledge among the Scoobies that Buffy was the slayer and that vampires and demons existed.

"All in favour that Buffy slays them?" Xander suggested. Willow, Cordy, and Matthew all rose their hands in the air and said, "Aye." Giles sighed and shook his head.

"I don't think it's that simple. These vampires are-" Giles started. He was cut off by the sound of the library door opening and a student entering. A very handsome student, might I add.

"Hi, I'm new here. I'm uh, looking for some books?" they boy said nervously. He cast a glance at the Scooby Gang, and Buffy and him locked eyes for a moment. They could each feel their pulses start racing and Buffy got light headed. Damn, this guy was hot.

"And your name is?" Giles ask him as he walked behind the desk.

"Angel O'Connor, sir," Angel replied. "I'm starting 12 grade here. See, I used to live in Missouri, until my father got transferred and-"

"Yes well, I asked for your name, not your life history," Giles snapped at him. He handed Angel the books that he needed and Angel thanked him and left.

"Giles! What was that all about?" Buffy asked, annoyed. Cordelia also scowled at the librarian and Watcher.

"I think the matter at hand is more important than some books. Either I can take an extra few seconds to be polite or I can spend those seconds planning on how not to get you killed," Giles said.

Buffy was waling down the hall later that day when she ran into a boy-guess who?

"Oh, um...sorry," she muttered. 'Geez, is that the best you could think of?' she thought to herself.

"That's ok...hey, you're that girl from the library this morning! I'm Angel!" he said to her, extending his hand.

"Buffy. Buffy Summers," she said. She accepted his hand and shook it firmly. 'Say something, girl!' she thought. "Do you um...need some er...help to find a class?" she asked. 'Oh, real smooth.'

"Actually, I do. This is a little bit embarassing...where's the boy's bathroom?" Angel lied to her. He really just wanted to spend time with her...but come on, talk about a lame excuse! Bathroom?! I mean, can you say 'cringe-worthy'?!

"Oh yeah, it's this way..." she muttered. Buffy started to walk briskly and he almost had to run to keep up. Fortunately, he was in very good shape.

Buffy waited outside the guys bathroom as Angel did his business. She wasn't sure why she wasn't leaving, but she got this flutter in her stomach that she didn't get from any other guy, even Matthew. It was excited and annoying at the same time.

"Hi," Angel said as he came back out.

"Hi."

"Hi," Matt said as he came up behind the two. He grabbed Buffy's ass and wrapped his arms around her. Buffy frowned at this but kept her mouth shut. Angel noticed.

"Listen, I've got to get to class baby, I'll see you later, all right?"

"Yeah. Alright," Buffy said quietly to Matt. He hit her ass one more time and disappeared into the crowd of other students.

"Why do you let him treat you like that?" Angel inquired.

Buffy was taken aback at his forwardness and his genuine concern.

"I-I...I have to go," she said quickly, and rushed off to her next class. Angel watched her go and he sighed as Xander came up behind him.

"She'll never be yours, believe me. Been there, tried that, my friend."

"Who are you?"

~*~*~*~

It was 4 pm later that day, and Buffy was finally leaving the library. Giles was worried about some new vamp gang or something, and called an extra Scooby meeting.

As Buffy walked down the deserted hall, past the deserted classrooms, she noticed that one door was open. Being as curious as she is, she stuck her head in and noticed that there was no one there, although there were books on the desk.

She wandered over and looked at the covers of the books. 'Vampyre Defense'...Demons and the Hellmouth'...they were all like that. Buffy was about to look at them more thoroughly when a voice at the doorway made her jump.

"Buffy."

She whirled around to see Angel standing in the door.

"Angel! What are you doing here?" Of all the people she had expected to see, he was at the bottom of her list. What on earth would he need these books for?

"You're probably wondering why I have those books."

"Probably," Buffy replied.

"Sit down," he advised her. "This could take a while."

~*~*~*~

"Wow," she said. "Wow."

"Yeah."

Angel had just spilled his life history to this girl-this girl that he had known for just one day, but trusted completely, and was hopelessly in love with.

Angel had just told her about his family, or lack thereof. They had been killed by vampires two years prior, and only he had survived. Now, he had dedicated his life to fighting vampires to save other innocent people.

Angel," Buffy said softly. Now it was time to spill her life history to this boy-this boy that she had known for just one day, but trusted completely, and was hopelessly in love with.

~*~*~*~

"Wow," he said. "Wow."

"Yeah...but you're not the only that knows. Willow-the redhead who was in the library with me this morning-she knows, and so does Xander-that guy with the dark hair-and so does so Matt. And Giles knows, of course, because he's my Watcher."

"I've read about slayers, but...I've never met one."

"Well, now you have," she replied with a smile. He smiled back and they just stayed like that for a moment.

Suddenly, a lightbulb appeared above her head (not literally, though) and she almost jumped out of her seat.

"Angel! How many vamps have you killed?" Buffy asked eagerly.

"Hundreds, I can't count them all."

"Perfect!"

~*~*~*~

"Well now, that is quite astonishing. And you have no super-strength or formal training of any kind?" Giles asked Angel. Buffy brought Angel to see Giles and let them know about her idea.

"No, sir."

"And Giles, just think! He could help me on patrol at night! Twice the vamps, half the time!"

"That would actually be if you had four people helping you," Willow said quietly from her position near the books. She had stayed behind helping Giles with research, an area that Buffy lacked talent in.

"Yes, there's an idea! In fact, why don't you two go tonight?"

"Oh, but Buffy-Bronze!"

"We'll still Bronze, Will, I promise! But me and Angel will just patrol first. See you there at nine thirty, like we promised?"

"Ok," Willow said with a smile.

"Angel, you can come too! It's the only club in Sunnydale, but it's awesome. You have to come!"

"Um, Ok...are you sure? I mean, I wouldn't want to intrude if you guys had plans..."

"No, it'll be awesome! Look, I'll meet you at Restfield Cemetery at say...7:30? It gets darker sooner now, with the lack of cold coming and all," Buffy suggested.

Angel nodded, and the two high school students left the library, with Willow and Giles staying behind to work on the research.

~*~*~*~

"Wow! You actually like history?!"

"Yeah, it's my favourite subject," Angel said truthfully. Buffy may not like history, but he was beginning to like her more and more the longer he knew her.

The duo were walking through the cemetery, looking for vamps. At some point, their hands had touched, and now they were walking hand in hand, looking for some guys to kill. Romantic, isn't it? Yeah well, that's the way romance works on the Hellmouth.

"It makes me brain hurt," Buffy said. She couldn't believe how easy it was to talk to Angel. She was so comfortable in him.

"Buffy-Watch out!" Angel yelled as a vampire came up behind her. She shrugged a jerked her stake behind her. When she looked, there was nothing but dust. Angle was impressed.

"Wow! I mean, I knew you were good and everything, but wow...I mean..." Angel stuttered. Buffy smiled at Angel and moved closer to him.

"If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't have known about the vamp," she said in a bare whisper. They lips got closer and closer, and it seemed like everything was playing out in slow motion. Finally, their lips connected and they shared a passionate kiss. Soon, their hands were roaming freely over each other's body, but Buffy broke apart quite suddenly.

"Angel, I-I can't. Matthew, I-I'm with Matthew." Then she rushed off, running blindly through the cemetery, only to run into a large figure.

"Why hello, little girl," the vamp said. Some of his buddies behind him (there looked to be about half a dozen) snickered.

"You *really* don't want to mess with me tonight," Buffy said impatiently. She tried to breeze past him, but one of them caught her arm. She spun around a did a high kick, getting him square in the jaw. He stumbled back into a nearby tree and sunk down to ground.

'One down, six to go,' Buffy thought to herself. Two came at her at once, and she managed to take the first down with a simple punch, but then another vamp came from behind and held her arms behind her back. She struggled out of his grasp, but he was too strong. There were no three vamps free to do with her as they pleased.

"Angel! ANGEL!!" Buffy screamed, desperate for his help. 'Screw this,' Buffy thought. 'I need his help!'

One vamp down, then another, then the third. Angel had come out of nowhere and he was now taking down the vamps easily. The only vamp left was the one that was holding Buffy. Angel punched his nose (and probably broke it).

"Come on; There could be more nearby," he said to Buffy, nearly out of breath. He held out his hand, and she gladly (and eagerly) accepted. He had just saved her life, and that was something you couldn't easily forget-even if your life was in danger every day.

They arrived at the Bronze at 9:30 exactly, and met Willow, Xander, and Matthew at thier regular table. Matthew pulled Buffy onto his lap and wrapped his arms around her. Angel sat down beside her.

"Rough day at the office?" Willow asked. She looked at Buffy's hair, which was pretty messed up. Buffy anxiously ran a hand through her hair and simply replied, "Yeah." They were silent for a few minutes, just watching the band (Dingoes Ate My Baby was playing tonight, and Willow had a crush on one of the guitarists).

"You guys want some drinks?" Buffy asked the gang. They gave her their orders, and to her surprise, Angel tagged along to help her out at the bar.

"I never got a chance to thank you back there Angel-you saved my life tonight," she said to him.

Angel looked embarassed by this, and simply nodded. When he looked up at her, he saw how pretty her emerald eyes were. Like green, glowing diamonds.

"The only thing I want to do is kiss you right now," he said softly. He shouldn't have said it, but it was true. He knew that Buffy was with Matthew, he knew it, but he couldn't help himself.

"Meet me in the alley behind the Bronze in 5 minutes," Buffy said. She couldn't believe that she was cheating on her boyfriend with this-well, he was almost a stranger. But she was in love with him, she knew it.

~*~*~*~

They kissed. And they kissed some more. It was filled with passion, with the need to feel each other's lips on theirs. They were interupted (again) by two vamps who apparently thought they would be pretty easy targets.

Without even breaking apart from Angel, Buffy managed to stake both vamps. They continued to kiss hungrily until they heard voices from nearby.

"Oh, I know! That was awesome!" came Willow's voice from the down the street.

"It was too bad Buffy had to leave though. The party was just getting started!" Xander chimed in. Angel and Buffy rushed to hide as the their friends walked down the alley, talking and laughing. There was a pile of crates which were the best Buffy could do last-minute. She pulled Angel behind them with her and they stood perfectly still until their friends left. "See you tomorrow?" Buffy asked Angel. He nodded, and she gave him a quick peck on the lips before heading the opposite direction from her friends.

~*~*~*~

"I can't believe it Buffy. Angel? Angel?!" Willow said. She was talking to Buffy on the phone that night, discussing Angel and how Buffy had cheated on Matt.

"I know, I know. He's such a sweet guy Will, and he's an incredible kisser," Buffy replied. Suddenly Buffy thought of something. "Will, you won't tell anyone, will you? I only told you because you're my best friend in the world!"

"Buffy I would never tell, I promise. But you know how I hate keeping secrets. I'm not good at it. Oh my god Buffy! How am I supposed to act around Matt?" she asked nervously.

Buffy had to laugh. "Just act normal Will. Besides, you won't have to keep it for long. If things keep going the way they are, I'll be broken up with him, by the end of the week."

"Really?"

"Really really."

~*~*~*~

"Hi Matt," Buffy said dully. Her friends were hanging out on the couches at Sunnydale High School. There wasn't much room, and Buffy was forced to squeeze in between Matt and Angel. She and Willow shared a secret smile, but she knew that Willow was feeling totally nervous inside. Buffy hoped she could end this charade with Matt soon. It was awkward because of the previous night. Damn, she was so attracted to Angel.

Suddenly Cordelia walked over to the gang.

"Angel, I'm having trouble with the vending machine. Do you think you could help?" she asked in a sweet, flirtatious manner. He looked around at everone, shrugged, and got up to help her.

But Buffy, worried that Cordy was just using this as an excuse to flirt with Angel, her secret boyfriend, jumped in.

"You know Cordy, I could probably help you. I mean, with the slayer-strength and all, y'know?"

"Ya, y'know? I think I'll get Angel to help," Cordy retorted coldly. Angel looked at Buffy, a meaningful look, and mouthed to her 'I'll be right back.' Buffy sighed and the gang chatted for a few minutes.

Angel and Cordy came back just as the early bell rang and Willow and Xander started to pack up. Will was supposed to give him a last-minute lesson before their huge history test. Cordy joined the Cordettes, and Matt went to talk to his chemistry teacher.

Buffy and Angel said nervously on the couch together, their hands almost touching. The second they did touch, Buffy pulled away instantly. But it didn't matter, the next second they both went for each other, their crashing hungrily. Angel layed her on the couch and they made out like mad, in view of everyone. Nothing else mattered, they didn't care if people watched them. The only thing they wanted was each other. Buffy could feel Angel's hand underneath her shirt on her back, unclasping her bra. She started to undo his belt.

Finally, a cold hand landing on Angel's shoulder snapped them out of it. They broke apart, gasping for breath, only to see Snyder's troll-like face staring down at them.

"O'Connor. Summers. In my office, now," Snyder said to them before walking away angrily. The two high school kids packed up their bags and Angel wiped the lipstick off his face. They sheepishly walked past crowds of kids mock-applauding the, on their near X-rated performance.

The last person they saw before entering Principal Snyder's office was Matthew, looking shocked and angry. He looked harshly at both Buffy and Angel and they entered Snyder's office, feeling only slightly guilty.

There were two chairs in front of Snyder's desk. They sat down, Angel holding Buffy's hand to support her. But she was all smiles. She may have to face a month of detention, but at least everything was out in the open now.

"This is a public place. This is intolerable!" Snyder snapped at them. "It's despicable, this kind of behavious in a high school. All you teenagers, like lemmings, horny lemmings."

Buffy paused before speaking up. "You never had a single date in high school, did you?" she asked him calmly.

"So?" he retorted. She just stifled a laugh. "That's one month's detention, each of you! Now out of my office!"

Angel looked at Buffy in amazement and she kissed him, a small, quick kiss. They walked out, hand-in-hand, only to be greeted by Matt.

"Matt? I think we should break up," I said, smiling apologetically. I felt bad for doing it, but I knew it was right. He turned away and walked down the hall. Finally, life was perfect.

The End
