I met a vampire.

Seven years later, I met a vampire.

Angel and I weren't prepared. We hadn't thought of Sunnydale or vampires or Hellmouths in years. The only things we thought of were each other, our children, and our home in France.

Yes, children. After Angel and I wed, we travelled for a few years as Kathryn and Liam Connors, although we were married as Angel Liam Connors and Buffy Anne Connors. We visited nearly every country in Europe, but settled down in a small town near Paris, and had 2 kids. A girl, Macey Claire Connors, and a boy, Andrew Brian Connors, ages 3 and 5. We were a family; Buffy, Angel, Macey and Andrew.

But back to the vampire. It was night. We were walking down the main road in town and a vampire sprung out from the shadows. Macey and Andrew screamed, and Angel and I shoved them out of the way. We were startled but prepared to fight.

He growled at us. "Slayer...Angelus." Angel and I looked at each other. Neither of us had brought a cross or even a stake. The vampire ran at us, so Angel and I just fought. We were stronger than the vamp, but he was a better fighter. I was surprised (and very glad) that Angel still had his strength even though he was human. I don't know what would have happened otherwise.

It was one of my toughest fights ever. Angel and I just weren't good anymore. Eventually, I was able to find a piece of broken wood while Angel kept the vamp busy. We all watched as the vamp turned to dust, and I let out a sigh or relief.

I held out my hand for Macey and Andrew, who were huddled in a corner. Slowly they stood up, and I could see that they were both on the verge of tears.

"Mommy and Daddy have something to tell you," I said gently.

*~*~*~*

I sat on my bed, face tear stricken, and watched the sun go down. It was a beautiful sight, and almost made me want to stay, but I knew that I couldn't.

Angel and I had told Macey and Andrew everything-well, almost everything. We left out the parts about us sleeping together, and how Angel killed hundreds of people, including Miss Calendar. But we told them that I was the slayer, and that Angel used to be a good vampire until he became human, and that we used to live in Sunnydale.

We told them that it was time to go home.

"Hey."

I turned around to see Angel standing in the doorway. He gave me his reassuring half-smile that I had come to love so much.

"Hey," I said.

"You alright?" he asked me. I nodded and looked out the window.

"It's time to go home..." I responded softly. I stood up and finished packing my suitcase. "Let's go."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely."

And with that, we went home.

Home.

The End
