Together

by Brit

Summary: Angel is human, and he does romantic stuff for Buffy.
Disclaimer: All of the characters belong to the almighty Joss.
Distribution: Feel free to post it on your site, as long as you give me credit for writing it.
Spoilers: Up through Season 5, except this is a little different, because Riley is an abusive alcoholic, and Joyce didn't actually die, although she almost did.
Rating: PG-13 or PG-14 for *implied* stuff.
Authors Note: In this fic, the Forgotten Day never happened, so of course Angel has never been human (except for BEFORE he became a vamp).
Authors Note 2: Part of Angel's speech towards the end is from the song "Under You Spell" from OMWF. Oh, and there's tons of little inside jokes in this fic you might pick up on if you're a hardcore Buffy fan; don't worry if you dont see them.
Dedication: All the amazing and talented actors and actressed on BTVS.
Feedback: Yes, please!!! It's what keeps me going and inspires me to write more!!!\

Angel looked just as confused as I felt. He squinted into the sun, then glanced at his hands. They should have been burning, but they weren't. There was nothing but skin.

"Angel?" I asked timidly. "Angel, what's going on?"

"I don't know Buffy," he said. He put a hand over his heart and his face broke into a smile. He took in a large breath and started to laugh.

"Buffy, Buffy! I'm human!!" he yelled. He grabbed my hand and spun me around joyfully.

I couldn't believe it. Angel, *my* Angel, was human at last. I had dreamt of this moment so many times, and it was even better than I imaged. Angel grabbed my hand and put it over his chest, letting me feel his heart beat for the first time for two hundred years. Tears formed behind my eyes.

"But how?"

"I don't know..." he responded, puzzled. Then an understanding look washed over his face. "When you drank my blood."

"What?"

He thought for a moment before speaking. "When the one vampire above all others...and the slayer turns to lower herself as one..."

"Angel, speak English!"

"There was a legend, way before my time, that when the slayer drank the blood of a vampire with a soul, he would become human. That's why it happened!"

"So...you're human because of me?"

"Exactly." Angel pulled me into a passionate kiss. When we broke apart because of lack of air, he said, "Come on, let's get ourselves checked into a hotel, ok? We're both exhausted."

I nodded, and we strolled through Pairs for about an hour, forgetting about Riley, and just enjoying these moments. Finally, we came upon a large brick building which turned out to be a hotel.

Angel was such a gentleman for me. He held open the door for me and carried my travel bag. We both knew that he would get his reward later.

I sat in an overstuffed armchair as he checked in, watching as he got drenched by the sunlight. He talked with one of the clerks at the front desk, signing paper and such. Suddenly he turned around and motioned for me to join him at the front desk.

I jogged forward and he pulled me aside. "We're going to have to use fake names, otherwise it will be too easy for Riley to trace us," he said in a hushed voice.

"Well, what'd you pick?"

"I was going to go with David, but then I thought to myself, 'I can't pull off a David,' so I went with my birth name, Liam Connors."

"Do you think I could be a Sarah?"

"No, you don't look like a Sarah...how about Kathryn?"

"Sure."

"Great," he said. Then a nervous sort of look came across his face. "Um...do you want to be Kathryn Connors? As in, husband-and-wife-sharing-the-same-last-name?"

I smiled. "Absolutely."

He breathed a sigh of relief. 'Liam' turned back to the clerk and they started speaking rapid French. The only words I was able to pick up on were "Oui" and "Non."

They talked for a few minutes, then Angel turned to me. "The room should be ready in about an hour. I have a few things to pick up at the store; you could go shopping if you'd like."

My eyes grew wide with excitement. Shopping?! In Paris?! Dibs me in!! I nodded, and he handed me several hundred dollars.

We agreed to meet back here in an hour, and we kissed quickly before heading our seperate ways.

It was paradise. Skirts and shoes and belts and pants and every fashionable piece of clothing I could ever imagine!! I nearly lost track of time, but fortuneatly made it back the hotel with one minute to spare. I didn't see Angel anywhere, and wondered where he was, and what he had to pick up at the store.

After several minutes, I began to worry about him, and tried talking to the clerk. It was very complicated, with her limited knowledge of English and my limited knowledge of French. Somehow we managed, and it turned out that Angel was waiting for me in my room. The clerk handed me a key to our room and I headed towards the elevator.

Room 730, said the keycard. I carefully made my way down the hallway of the seventh floor, and slipped the key into the lock. When the tiny green light flashed, I pushed the door open.

A small white-clothed table and two chairs were in the centre of the room. A single candle burned in the middle, and two plates, waiting to be filled. Angel stood over a hot stove, cooking.

"Hello lover," he said with a smile.

I almost started to cry. This was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for me. He stepped away from the stove for a moment to embrace me in his arms. Angel ran his fingers through my hair and pulled me into a soft kiss.

Then he set two plates on the small table. Mmm, roast beef with steamed vegetables. Angel pulled out my chair for me, and I sat down, very impressed.

"Angel, why are you doing this all for me?" I asked.

He reached into the pocket of his dinner jacket.

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, I thought. I couldn't believe this was happening. My heart raced and I started breathing faster than normal. I smiled.

"Because, Buffy Anne Summers, until I met you I didn't know what love was. You opened my eyes and showed me an entirely different world than the one I knew. I lived my life in shadow, never the sun on my face. I didn't seem too sad though; I figured that was my place. But now I'm bathed in light, and it's all because of you. Buffy Anne Summers, will you marry me?"

By this time, I was crying, and it was difficult for me to do anything because I was in such shock, and I was so overwhelmed with feelings of love and happiness. But somehow I managed to nod, and Angel slipped the ring on my finger. We kissed; the best kiss we had ever had.

We spent that night in the bedroom; you can probably guess what we were doing. It was amazing, and the best part about it was that there was no one (and nothing) to take that night away from us-not family, friends, ex-boyfriends, or happiness clauses.

I awoke to an empty bed and the smell of pancakes, eggs, and sausages.

"Angel?" I called out.

He poked his head into the bedroom and told me that he had ordered breakfast. It smelled absolutely delicious.

I took a quick shower and dressed, then headed into the main room of our hotel room. Angel sat at the table eating some of everything.

"How come you never told me food is this good?" he asked with a full mouth. I just laughed and sat down across from him, grabbing some bacon.

And we just sat like that for hours, eating, reading the newspaper together, and playing footsy under the table.

The End
